It started, as always, in CFD. A deeper head tube, deeper fork legs and a bottom bracket junction that shields the rear wheel let the whole bike work as one system, saving 8.6 watts of drag over the outgoing Soloist.

More surface, less weight
The frame's surface area grew by nearly 3% and the fork's by over 8%, yet both came out lighter than before. Faster and lighter as a system, sitting bang on the 6.85 kg UCI weight limit straight out of the box.
Aero Bottles, +4.3 Watts
Drag you can drink from
Round bottles add 6.3 watts of drag; the Soloist's aero bottles add just 2. They stand up on their own for easy filling, and the cages still take a round bottle from a feed zone, so you save watts without skipping a drink.

More about the Soloist
The Soloist is an all out race machine, with a lot pulled across from the S5 and the R5, but a real dose of comfort and practicality alongside it. Aero profile, light weight, wide tyre clearance and a friendlier approach to servicing, which together get you close to top end race speed without the headaches that usually come with it.
It sits between the S5 and the R5 on the performance scale, at a price that is less World Tour and more road trip. Around 250g heavier than an R5 and 250g lighter than an S5. It is the sensible answer for a rider after an intentional compromise rather than an extreme.
The handling geometry comes straight off the R5, the bike professionals and amateurs alike rate for its poise and precision when a hard climb turns into a harder descent. The Soloist inherits all of it.
Cables run inside the frame for aerodynamics but do not pass through the stem. Cervélo thread them under the stem and through the bearing cap instead, so if your position changes, or you lend the bike to someone who runs a different stem length, nobody needs to bleed the brakes to swap it.
It takes tyres up to a measured 34mm, on wheels wide enough to support them. The BBRight T47 bottom bracket, first seen on the R5-CX, makes bottom bracket swaps straightforward and extends the life of the frame, which matters if you are putting real miles in without a professional mechanic checking the bike over every day.
