Road systems like SPD-SL use a wide three-bolt cleat for a stable, efficient platform, but they are awkward to walk in. Two-bolt SPD cleats recess into the sole, so you can get off and walk about — which is why they suit gravel, commuting and anything involving a café stop. Flat pedals need no special shoes at all.

Whichever you choose, the pedals and cleats have to match the shoes. If you are mixing brands or unsure what your shoes will take, bring them in and we will check.
