Valve length is where people come unstuck. Deep-section rims need a long valve, and a 40mm stem on a 50mm rim leaves you nothing to attach a pump to. Measure the rim depth and add at least 15mm.

Lightweight TPU tubes pack down to a fraction of the size of butyl and are worth carrying as a spare even if you run something heavier day to day.
