Gazelle have been building bikes in the Netherlands since 1892, in a country where a bike is transport rather than a hobby. That shows in everything they make. Hub gears, belt or enclosed chain, lights and a rack as standard, and a riding position that suits normal clothes. Bosch motors on the electric range, which is the system we would pick if we were keeping a bike for ten years.

The Medeo is the practical one, a comfortable step-through or high-step e-bike that will do a commute all week and a canal path at the weekend. The Grenoble and Paris sit alongside it with hub gears and a quieter, more traditional feel. The Ultimate is the quickest of them, and the one to look at if the commute is longer or hillier than average.

Battery size is the main choice. A 400Wh battery covers a normal commute for most of a week, and 540Wh or more covers a long day out. Range depends on the hills, your weight, the wind and which assist level you use, so we would rather talk through your actual route than quote a number off a box.

An e-bike wants a shop it can go back to. Drivetrains wear faster under the extra power, and batteries and firmware occasionally need the right tools. That is the part of buying one locally that is worth real money.
