Merida

Taiwanese, founded in 1972, and now one of the largest bicycle manufacturers in the world. Merida build frames for other companies as well as their own, which means a great deal of manufacturing knowledge sits behind a badge that has never shouted very loudly. The practical effect is that you get more bike for the money than the name suggests, and the technology from the top of the range works its way down it.

The Reacto is the aero road bike, and the number tells you where you are in the range, from the 4000 up to the 9000. The Scultura Endurance takes the opposite approach, a more relaxed position and a little more give, for riders who care about how they feel at hour four.

Gravel splits two ways. The Silex is the adventure one, with a long front end and a short stem that puts you in a position you can hold all day and leaves room for bags. The Mission is the quicker option, closer to a road bike that has been let off the tarmac.
