Mountain Bikes
A focused selection rather than a wall of them. Hardtails for trail centres, fitness and getting properly off road without spending a fortune, and short travel full suspension for when the ground gets rougher. Modern geometry has made even the affordable end of mountain biking far more capable than it was a few years ago.

Marin are who we range here, and they have a long history of getting the basics right rather than chasing spec sheets. The Bobcat Trail is the hardtail that covers most people, from a first proper mountain bike upwards. The Bolinas Ridge sits alongside it as the simpler, more affordable option. The Rift Zone is the full suspension trail bike, available in 27.5 and 29er, and is the one to look at if you are riding the red and black trails regularly.
Hardtail or full suspension is the first question. A hardtail is lighter, cheaper, needs less maintenance and teaches you to pick a line. Full suspension is faster and far less tiring on rough descents, and costs more to buy and to look after. If you are mostly riding fire roads and blue trails, a hardtail is plenty.
If you are riding more towpath and fire road than singletrack, a gravel bike or a flat bar hybrid may serve you better. We would rather tell you that than sell you the wrong bike.
