Gloves do more than keep your hands warm. They take the sting out of road buzz, keep your grip when the bars are wet, and save a lot of skin if you go down.

Summer mitts are about padding and grip. Winter gloves are a balance, enough insulation to keep feeling in your fingertips, little enough bulk to still work the levers. Windproofing usually matters more than thickness.

Get the fit right: too tight restricts circulation and makes cold hands worse, too loose bunches under the palm and causes hot spots.
