Kids Bikes

A bike is freedom, independence and confidence, and the sooner a child gets one that actually fits the sooner they enjoy riding it. Kids bikes are sized by wheel rather than by age, so the number on the bike is the tyre size, not how old they are. If you are unsure, bring them in and we will stand them over a few.

Rough guide on sizing. A 14 inch wheel suits around age 3 to 4, 16 inch around 4 to 6, 20 inch around 5 to 8, 24 inch around 7 to 11, and 26 inch upwards from there. Inside leg matters far more than age, and a bike that is too big is worse than one that is slightly too small, because a child who cannot get a foot down will not trust it.

Ridgeback Dimension is the range we sell most of, light for the money and sensibly specced from 14 inch up to 27.5. Yomo cover 14 to 20 inch and are excellent value for a first proper bike. Frog have been a shop favourite for years and are still here across first pedal and hybrid sizes. Scott Scale and Merida Matts take it into proper kids mountain bikes, and there is even a Genesis CDA Jnr if you have a junior gravel rider on your hands.

Weight is the thing worth paying for. A child is pushing a far higher percentage of their own body weight than an adult, so a lighter bike genuinely changes whether they want to ride it. It is the single biggest difference between a bike that gets used and one that sits in the shed.

Every bike is built and checked by our mechanics before it leaves. Bring them into the shop, it takes ten minutes to get the size right.

Kids bikes are a flat £10 delivery.
