Cervélo's road range splits by what you actually want the bike to do rather than by price. The S5 is the aero one, the R5 is the climber, the Soloist sits between the two and covers most of what either will do, and the Caledonia trades a little outright speed for comfort over a long day on rough roads. Four platforms, with the Caledonia offered in two tiers.

If you are choosing between them, the honest question is what your riding looks like rather than what you would like it to look like. Long flat roads and fast groups point at the S5. Mountains and long climbs point at the R5. If the answer is a bit of everything, the Soloist exists precisely for that and is the one most people end up on.

The Caledonia is the one to look at if your roads are broken, your rides are long, or you want mudguard mounts and a bigger tyre without giving up the handling. The Caledonia-5 is the same idea built lighter and with a better finishing kit.
