Lake make cycling shoes for feet that other cycling shoes do not fit. That sounds like a small niche until you have spent a winter with numb toes. Wide fittings are a normal part of the range rather than an afterthought, several models use a heat mouldable last you can shape to your own foot, and the leather settles and stretches instead of staying stubbornly the shape it was made.

The naming is straightforward. CX is road, with a three bolt sole. MX is two bolt, for mountain biking, gravel and anything where you have to walk. The numbers climb as the sole gets stiffer and the closure gets more sophisticated.

The CXZ and MX winter boots are a proper answer to a Scottish January, insulated and sealed rather than a summer shoe with a cover pulled over it.

Foot shape varies far more than a size chart suggests. Come in and try a pair if you can, particularly if you have ever bought a shoe in your own size that still did not fit.
