DT Swiss

Swiss, and originally a wire mill, which explains why the spokes came first. DT Swiss have been drawing the thin steel that holds a wheel together for well over a century, and their Competition and Aerolite spokes are what a great many hand built wheels get laced with, whoever's name ends up on the rim.

The other thing they are known for is the Star Ratchet freehub. Instead of pawls springing out to catch a ring, two toothed discs are pushed together face to face, which spreads the load across far more teeth at once. It is the main reason a DT Swiss hub tends to keep going long after the wheel has stopped looking new.

The naming reads easily once you know it. The letter is the job, P and PR for road, G, GR and GRC for gravel, E for enduro and electric, A for all round. The number is the tier, and lower is lighter. SPLINE is the alloy family, and the 1400 series is where the light and carbon options sit.

If you are replacing a wheel rather than a whole bike, bring the old one in. Axle standards, freehub bodies and brake types have multiplied to the point where checking in person is far quicker than guessing.
