Bike Fit

Here at our Glasgow bike shop we are passionate about cycling and making it fun for everyone, we believe that Bike Fit is a massive part of that. Our fitting service aims to help everyone from complete beginners to seasoned racers and everyone in between.

Full Dynamic bike fit- £200

Our dynamic Bike Fit process aims to get you as comfortable and efficient on your own bike as possible by adjusting the bike to fit your body for the type of riding that you want to do. It is not restricted to a set number of steps and parameters like many other fits out there because the last time we checked every rider is different meaning that every fit must be different. This is why we tend to stay away from standardized body angle ranges as we like to take time with each individual customer and find out what their own personal needs are on the bike and not just what the computer screen says. So whether you are looking to squeeze out those extra watts for your next big event, looking to get rid of those aches and pains or a bit of both we are here to offer a service tailored to exactly what you need.

Our professionally trained bike fitter Barry is highly qualified in many techniques that are certified by the International Bike Fitting Institute, as well as over 20 years of experience working in the bike industry which allows us to offer a wide range of professional services.

We do all our bike fitting on your own bike which we will set up on a turbo trainer or rollers This allows us to make adjustments to hone in your position so you can ride away from the shop with your bike all set up and ready to roll! We also have a number of professional bike fitting tools and jigs which we will also use throughout the fit to help achieve the best results.

This service usually takes 2-3 hours and we will cover all of the following key areas:

Body Positioning:

In order to get the perfect position on a bicycle you must get three elements correct. Extension, Flexion and Balance. If even one of these elements is out, then the relationship between rider and bicycle will be severely sub-optimal. These three elements, if set up correctly, allow the body to be supported and well balanced which eliminates unnecessary stress on the body that causes premature muscle fatigue, thus increasing comfort and power. In order to determine the optimum mix of these three elements we use comparative on-bike testing in our studio to find the most efficient position, unique to every rider. >
This involves optimising the saddle height, setback, crank length, stem length and height, handle bar width and lever positioning and should leave you feeling comfortable and stable on your bike.

Saddle fit and selection:

The saddle is a key contact part of the bike which supports your pelvis so it is vital for your whole body position to get a saddle that fits well and supports you properly. > During the bike fit we will make sure the saddle is in an optimal position for you so that it is as comfortable and supportive as possible. If once your saddle is in a good position but it still doesn't feel comfortable then we will help you choose and try new saddles from our wide selection. >
After you have picked a favourite or two, our customers can hire out a demo model for two weeks so you can be certain you have made the right purchase. If you then buy a saddle from us, then the cost of the hire will be refunded to you on collection of your new saddle. If we don't have a demo model of the saddle you like, we have an exchange policy on our new saddles so if you buy a saddle and it doesn't work out for you, we will exchange it provided it's still in good condition.

We typically range saddles from Prologo, PRO, ISM, Fi'zi:k and Selle Italia and have a wide selection to fit most types of riders.

Shoe and Cleat Fitting:

Shoe fitting and cleat position is vital and is the foundation of a good bike fit. It is the first point of contact with the pedals which means they are paramount in getting the power to the bike, so why guess at setting them up? >
During this part of the bike fit we will check your shoes fit and support your feet properly and the cleats are adjusted to help your alignment with the bike. >
As well as the fore, aft, medial, lateral and rotation adjustment of the cleats we can use a range of insoles, wedges and leg length shims to help you engage with the bike as efficiently as possible thus increasing power and comfort and limiting the likelihood of foot, knee and even back pain.

Detailed fit report:

At the end of the fit we will send you a diagram and accurate measurements so you can keep them for future reference or set up your other bikes. We also offer a bike fit transfer service if you'd like us to replicate your position on a second (or N+1) bike.

After a bike fit it usually takes the body a few weeks or so of riding to adapt and settle into a new position. If you still have any issues we'll try our best to resolve these with a follow up appointment as we aim to provide the best service we can.

Other bike fit services

As well as our full professional bike fit service we also offer the following services:

Shoe fitting- £30

We will help you choose shoes based on the size and shape of your feet for the type of riding that you do. We carry a wide range of shoes in lots of different lasts. If you buy the shoes from us, this service is included in the price and we'll align and fit the cleats for you. Our main brands are Lake, Giro, Udog and Shimano but we can order from many more!

Superfeet Custom Moulded Insoles - £85

The Superfeet insoles we have been fitting during bike fits have been really popular so we have decided to invest in our own custom moulding machine to take it to the next level.
The insoles are heated up then vacuum formed to your feet to ensure perfectly fitted support across the midfoot and heel. This makes for amazing levels of comfort and stability resulting in more power!
We also have a range of standard insoles in stock which still offer great support and comfort which we can help you choose, from £45.

Saddle Fit - £80

Finding the perfect saddle can be a tricky process and is hard to know what will work for you until you've tried it. This can become an expensive and time consuming guessing game!

The saddle is a key contact part of the bike which supports your pelvis so it is vital for your whole body position to get a saddle that fits well and supports you properly.

In our saddle fit we set your bike up on our trainer and have a quick look at your saddle position first to make sure it's in a good position to start with. Then we select several saddles from our extensive range based on your body shape, bike position and type of riding you do. You can then try each one whilst pedaling on the trainer. Once we've narrowed it down to a favourite, or two, we'll help you optimise the saddle height, angle and setback for that saddle so it is in the most comfortable and efficient position for you.

We have an exchange policy on our new saddles so if you buy a saddle and it doesn't work out for you, we will exchange it provided it's still in good condition. We also have a some demo saddles for some of our more popular models which can be rented for a few weeks.

We typically range saddles from Prologo, PRO, ISM, Fi'zi:k and Selle Italia and have a wide selection to fit most people.

Note- Ideally this service works best if your bike is set up in a comfortable position that you are happy with and it is just the saddle that needs changed. Quite often saddle discomfort can be caused by other parts of the bike position being sub-optimal such as handle bar reach and drop or cleat positioning. Get in touch if you'd like help deciding whether a saddle fit is sufficient or if a full bike fit would be more beneficial.

Crank length fit-£80

Crank length curious but don't know where to start? With our crank length jig we can simulate cranks from 140mm all the way to 180mm on your own bike to help you decide which length suits you best.

Crank length is an important part of bike fitting and is becoming a much debated topic with lots of pro riders riding shorter cranks to victory!

Crank length effects the distance your feet travel in each revolution of the pedals and getting the best crank length for you can improve your pedal stroke, cadence, stability through the pelvis, reduce hip, knee and back pain and even increase saddle comfort and power!

It's not quite as simple as just fitting new cranks because changing the length effects the saddle height, saddle setback and the handlebar drop. So as we change the cranks we look at how this effects your position on the bike and help you decide which length feels right to you and works for your riding position.

We can then help you choose, supply and fit your new chainset.

Note- Ideally this service works best if your bike is set up in a comfortable position that you are happy with and it is just the crank length that needs changed. Get in touch if you'd like help deciding whether a crank length fit is sufficient or if a full bike fit would be more beneficial.

Bike Sizing fit-£100

Buying a new bike is a big investment and getting the correct size is crucial to making the most of it.

In our sizing fit we will assess your position on your current bike, take some key measurements then compare geometry charts in detail to make sure your new bike is the best size and fit for you. During this process we will discuss things you want to improve with your new bike and help you choose the right type of bike and size for your needs.

When buying a high end bike from us, we include this as part of the buying process so the cost of the fit will be deducted from the price of the bike when the sale is completed. *Conditions apply.

Got more than one bike? No problem, if you have already had a bike fit or are simply happy with your current position and want to replicate it on another bike, we’ve got you covered.
